Reflex RX28 Gen 3 Lipo 2500

Looking to build a competitive car for Lipo 2500? The Reflex RX28 Gen 3 is one of the best platforms you can start with. It’s a true 1:28 scale pan car, designed with a low center of gravity and simple, efficient rear pod that works extremely well.

Lipo 2500 uses a 2S Lipo chassis, a 2500kv brushless motor, and plastic hard bodies. It’s a noticeable step up from AAA classes in speed and consistency, but still very controllable and raceable. The RX28 Gen 3 fits this class perfectly. It has smooth rear pod action, adjustable front end geometry, and enough tuning options to dial the car in for different grip levels and driving styles without getting overly complicated.

If you want something planted, predictable, and easy to tune, this is a great choice.

Body:

For Lipo 2500, you’ll want to run a plastic hard body. Popular options include the Radbody Piranha, PN Racing Concept C9, Jomurema GT01, or other lightweight GT-style hard bodies that fit 98mm wheelbase setups.

The RX28 Gen 3 uses standard hardbody mounts, so every body should directly mount to the car.

Class Specifics:

The RX28 Gen 3 is straightforward to finish off for Lipo 2500.

Lipo 2500 typically runs a 14t 64p pinion with a 2500kv motor on a 2S Lipo. This gives a good balance of punch and top speed without cooking the motor. The 53t spur gear needed for Lipo 2500 already comes on the car, so no need to change it.

Tires will make or break the car. We recommend starting with:

  • 8.5mm front slicks

  • 11mm rear radials

From Kyosho, PN Racing, or Marka depending on track surface and grip level. Don’t be afraid to experiment with compounds. Tire choice matters a ton in this class.

Electronics:

Electronics are simple for this class, and very similar to a 1:12 scale pan car, only smaller!

You’ll need:

Servo
A 1:28 scale micro servo. The AGFRC A06CLS is a popular option and fits well in most 1:28 Lipo chassis layouts. There are other similar size servos that will also work. Just make sure it fits the RX28 Gen 3 servo mount and servo horn.

Receiver & Radio
Use a micro receiver that matches your radio. FlySky users can grab a FlySky micro receiver. Other brands may require an aftermarket compatible micro receiver. MXO Racing makes a bunch of micro receivers for all kinds of radios. Just make sure protocol and frequency match.

ESC
The Hobbywing Mini28 ESC is one of the most common choices for 1:28 Lipo racing. It handles 2S Lipos well and allows tuning with Hobbywing programming cards. Smooth throttle control is important in Lipo 2500, and this ESC delivers.

Motor
Lipo 2500 uses a sensored 2500kv motor. We recommend something like the PN Racing V5 Anima 2500kv motor since it works for P1 Mini RC race rules as well as 28SRA and PNWC formats.

Battery
A small 2S Lipo battery under 20mm wide. The Reflex Racing 340mah 2S pack is a common choice and fits well in Lipo chassis setups while keeping weight low and centered.
