MR-04 Box Stock
Looking to get started racing Mini-Z? Then build a Kyosho MR-04 Box Stock and compete! We recommend starting with a Kyosho MR-04 RTR set. These kits are very stable and less prone to traction rolling compared to the Kyosho MR-03. Most box stock classes, including our own, allow for a few upgrades, including T-plates, wheels, tires, and bodies. We recommend swapping the stock plastic T-plate out with a PN Racing T-plate. I personally prefer the Spring Steel line of T-plates, but experiment with T-plates to find something that fits your driving style.
Also, we recommend switching the tires out with another tire from brands like Kyosho, PN Racing, Marka Racing, and more. The stock tires that come with the MR-04 readyset aren’t very good for running on RCP tracks and various tracks in general. Different tires mean that you can get the grip down for acceleration and cornering. We recommend running a lower profile slick in the front, and a radial style tire in the rear. Look at running 8.5mm wide tires for the front, and 11mm wide tires for the rear.
If you’re looking for some further upgrades, try changing wheels and bodies. There are a bunch of wheel designs that have different offsets, which completely change how a car can handle. Different bodies, like the PN Racing Concept C9 and Jomurema GT01 modify the downforce package and overall feel of a car through higher-speed corners. If you’re looking to get the last little bit of performance out of a box stock car, try changing wheels and bodies.
Overall, start with a Kyosho MR-04 Readyset, change out the tires and t-plate, add a transponder, and you’re ready to race!
